Jesus’ death accomplished what no one and nothing else could. Given that, it is fitting that His last words from the cross signaled the completion of His earthly mission.
Jesus, who was Himself sinless, accepted all the iniquity of mankind (Isaiah 53:5-6), taking on both the judgment and the payment for sin. Thus, He finished His earthly work when He took His last breath.
“It is finished,” John 19:30.
Jesus completed the work that God had sent Him to accomplish the moment He died on the cross. His sacrifice fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies. The judgment and punishment for sin were complete. By surrendering His own precious blood, He ensured the forgiveness of sin for all of mankind. Finally, by bearing the full weight of humanity’s sin, Jesus secured the pathway to Eternal Life for all who believe in Him.

“Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit,” Luke 23:46.
The act of bowing His head and giving up His spirit signifies the completion of Jesus’ earthly mission. Further, it reflects His humility and obedience, even in the last agonizing moments of His earthly life. The work Jesus did on the cross paid the full price for our redemption. He conquered sin, forever satisfying the payment for us.
His submission to death was not a defeat, but rather the pathway to the ultimate victory and the fulfillment of God’s plan for redemption.
Jesus’ resurrection completed the victory.
The resurrection marks the ultimate triumph over the forces of evil. It secures the promise of New Life for all who believe in Christ. It demonstrates His power over sin, death, and the grave. More than that, it proves He was who He said He was — The Son of God, the promised Messiah, and the Savior of the World.
It is the resurrection that secured Eternal Life and that gives us hope. Because He lives, we will live also.
Thank you, Jesus, for Your willingness to sacrifice everything for our sake, to ensure the forgiveness of our sins, and to secure the promise of Eternal Life for all who believe in You. Amen.
IT IS FINISHED
IT IS FINISHED.
The veil was ripped and torn.
Our Savior bowed His head in death,
forsaken and alone.
Bruised for our transgressions.
Punished for our sins.
With His last breath, our Savior paid,
the ransom for all men.
IT IS FINISHED.
Darkness blanketed the earth.
His death fulfilled the Covenant,
set before His birth.
Our Savior bore the burden,
and the darkness of all sin,
sacrificing His own Life,
that we might Live again.
IT IS FINISHED.
The final words were spoken.
In His Mother’s arms He lay,
His body bruised and broken.
It was only after witnessing,
all that had been done,
that those there gathered understood,
this truly was God’s Son.
IT IS FINISHED.
They rolled the stone in place,
only to find an empty tomb,
when they returned in just Three Days.
IT IS FINISHED.
Our debt was fully paid.
Our Savior conquered sin and death,
by Rising from the Grave.
