GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS, GOD

God’s mercy transcends generations. His faithfulness endures forever.

When I think of the vastness of creation, I’m humbled. God created the universe with purpose and precision. Then, He created us in His image. His faithfulness endures through generations and transforms us from insignificance to being called His children.

Compared to God, we are nothing.

Yet, to our Heavenly Father, we are everything.

A Hymn of Praise — Psalm 8

Psalm 8 is a hymn of praise to our Creator and gratitude for the exalted position God has given humanity, despite our frailty.

Compared to the heavens, we are small.

Yet, God crowns us with glory, giving us dominion over His creation.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

You have set Your glory
    in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
You have established a stronghold against Your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens,
    the work of Your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which You have set in place,
what is mankind that You are mindful of them,
human beings that You care for them?

You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of Your hands;
You put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

— Psalm 8: 1-9

Our position requires humility and faithfulness.

Our unique position in creation is not a reason for pride. Rather, it’s a call to humility.

God values us because He made us. He loves us for who we are.

Our worth to God isn’t something we have to earn.

That’s the good news!

God knew we’d fall. He knew we’d need forgiveness.

And so He demonstrated His enduring love and faithfulness by sending His Son to become like us in our weakness. To become lower than the angels, so that by faith in Jesus, we can be forgiven forever! Amen.

Great is Your faithfulness, God,

and the glorious work of Your hands.

You ordained the stars in the heavens;

At Your word, all life began.

You whispered the seas into being,

from Your breath the mountains formed.

You set the moon to light the dark,

and the sun to light the dawn.

You filled all of creation,

with creatures both big and small,

and in Your very own image,

set man above them all.

Who are we, Lord, that You are mindful,

of the number of our days?

That You’d send Your Son to save us,

When we had gone astray?

Who are we that You never fail us,

When we so often turn from You?

When we fail to honor Your goodness,

With all we say and do?

Great is Your promise, God.

And great is Your holiness.

Great is Your kindness, Lord.

And Your faithfulness.

Great is the power of Your presence.

For Your love remains unchanged.

And great is Your Spirit within us,

where Your mercy lives and reigns.

Amen.

I’m JN Fenwick.

Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame. On March 22, 2018, I surrendered my life to Christ. I was 51. God did not forsake me. He welcomed me, as undeserving as I am. He did not see my brokenness. Instead, He saw my potential. My Recovery Journey is one of Faith. From the ashes of my failures, God built a fire in me. A fire that guides each step I take. My journey is yours. My healing can be yours, too. God is a mighty warrior. You can take comfort in the promise that the Lord will fight for you and grant you peace.
