IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER

When we pray, we draw near to God.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

These words acknowledge the cross and the very nature of God as the Holy Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

It seems like a simple statement. But it isn’t. It’s a powerful one.

When we say these words, we’re asking God, the Father, God His Son, and God, the Holy Spirit, for His grace and power over all of our being.

Opening our prayers with these words conveys our faith and belief in the Triune God they represent.

They prepare us to come before our Creator with humility and gratitude.

Making the sign of the cross is a prayer. It’s a sign of respect and of surrender. It demonstrates our willingness and commitment to dedicate our words and deeds to our Father’s holy name.

Making the sign of the cross reminds us of God’s sacrificial love for us and His personal invitation for us to love Him, too.

The Holy Trinity reveals exactly who God is.

God is our creator, and so we call him Father. He’s our redeemer in human flesh, and so we call Him Son. God lives in our hearts, and so we call Him the Holy Spirit.

Our Father is a God of mercy, love, goodness, and compassion. He made us in His likeness. He gave us free will. When we abused our free will, He didn’t discard us. Instead, He sent His Son to save us.

Beginning our prayers in humble acknowledgment of His authority over all of creation draws us nearer to Him.

May every prayer begin and end with the Holy Trinity. And may we honor the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with all we think and say and do.

AMEN.

In the NAME of the FATHER,

and of the SON,

and of the HOLY SPIRIT.

As I pray, I ask You, LORD,

to bless me with Your nearness.

Clear my mind of everything,

that detracts from You.

Fill my soul with all You are,

with PEACE and perfect TRUTH.

As I pray, I thank You, LORD,

for the GIFTS You’ve given me.

The greatest one,

that of Your SON,

Who died to set me FREE.

For the gift of LIFE,

and every breath,

for deliverance from temptation,

with gratitude, I thank You, LORD,

for the blessing of SALVATION.

As I pray, I ask You, LORD,

to wrap me in Your GRACE,

so that all I am,

reflects the STRENGTH

and POWER of Your NAME.

Guide my steps and fill my heart,

so my focus stays on You.

Let my words and actions, LORD,

proclaim Your blessed TRUTH.

As I pray, I thank You, LORD,

for bringing me this far.

For Your FAITHFULNESS,

and HEALING, LORD,

for SHELTER in the storm.

Humble me before You, LORD,

impart to me Your WISDOM,

increase my FAITH,

and with Your LOVE,

clear my imperfect vision.

Thank You, LORD,

for covering me in Your MERCY

and FORGIVENESS.

For the COMFORT and SECURITY

of Your HOLY PRESENCE.

May Your LIGHT enrich my sight,

with PURPOSE and with clearness,

so that all this day,

I draw my strength

from the fountain of Your nearness.

In the NAME of the FATHER,

and of the SON,

and of the HOLY SPIRIT.

AMEN.

I’m JN Fenwick.

Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame. On March 22, 2018, I surrendered my life to Christ. I was 51. God did not forsake me. He welcomed me, as undeserving as I am. He did not see my brokenness. Instead, He saw my potential. My Recovery Journey is one of Faith. From the ashes of my failures, God built a fire in me. A fire that guides each step I take. My journey is yours. My healing can be yours, too. God is a mighty warrior. You can take comfort in the promise that the Lord will fight for you and grant you peace.
