Three powerful prayers for guidance, gratitude, forgiveness, and fostering a deeper relationship with God.
Prayer connects us with the divine. Scripture instructs us, “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16).
I write poetry that often feels more like praying than just creativity. The words find their way to me in everyday moments, in moments when I’m feeling anxious or overwhelmed, and in moments when thanksgiving fills my heart.
I feel God’s presence moving through me when I write the words, knowing they come from Him. I don’t question them; I embrace them because I feel His peace and His purpose as I’m writing them.
They are not mine to keep. They’re a gift to be shared. A voice of hope in another’s wilderness. A light to guide another’s steps, a reminder that God is the author of Creation, and that through Him alone do we receive salvation. I know this because they provide the same for me.
I pray you find comfort, strength, and peace in these words.
A Prayer of Gratitude

Thank You for this day, Lord,
for the breath in my lungs,
the life in my body,
for Your FAITHFUL MERCY,
and the GIFTS You have given.
Forgive my failures, Lord,
for the wrongs I have done,
the times I’ve run ahead,
for choosing the world,
instead of Your KINGDOM.
Humble my heart, Lord,
to Your PURPOSE and WILL,
the TRUTH of Your WORD,
to Your PRESENCE within me,
and the gift of SALVATION.
Increase my FAITH, Lord,
and my desire to SERVE You,
my longing to SURRENDER,
everything that I am,
for the gift of Your FREEDOM.
All through this day, Lord,
help me to remember,
That you hold the POWER
over all of CREATION.
AMEN.

A Prayer for Guidance

Guide our steps, Lord.
Bless every breath we take.
Send Your Spirit, Lord,
to inform each move we make.
You were there when time began.
There when the mountains formed.
From everlasting to everlasting, Lord,
from the moment we were born.
It’s Your breath that gives us life,
we’re created in Your image.
Remind us of Your Presence, Lord,
that Your Spirit dwells within us.
Give us eyes that seek You,
hearts that keep Your Word.
Hands and feet that long for,
Your purpose in this world.
Remind us of Your faithfulness,
that our lives are in Your hands.
That You come to meet us, Lord,
exactly where we stand.
Grant us, Lord, Your mercy
when we fail to follow through.
Humble us to seek Your light,
with all we say and do.
You were there when time began.
There, when the seas took shape.
From everlasting to everlasting, Lord,
may we glorify Your name.
Amen.

A Prayer for Forgiveness

Bless me, Father, for I have sinned,
and fallen short of Your GLORY.
Fill my heart with Your perfect PEACE,
allow Your GRACE to enfold me.
Give me the strength to overcome,
the temptations of this world.
Send YOUR Spirit to guide my steps,
and Your LIGHT to fill me, Lord.
Forgive me, Father, for the times I’ve failed
to follow Your WORD and Your calling.
Grow my FAITH, increase my HOPE,
and allow Your TRUTH to fill me.
Humble me, Lord, to follow through,
let all I think and say and do,
reflect Your will and not my own,
this day until You call me home.
AMEN.

I’m JN Fenwick.
Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame. On March 22, 2018, I surrendered my life to Christ. I was 51. God did not forsake me. He welcomed me, as undeserving as I am. He did not see my brokenness. Instead, He saw my potential. My Recovery Journey is one of Faith. From the ashes of my failures, God built a fire in me. A fire that guides each step I take. My journey is yours. My healing can be yours, too. God is a mighty warrior. You can take comfort in the promise that the Lord will fight for you and grant you peace.
