THE DARKNESS DID NOT WIN

Darkness didn’t get the last word in my story; God did, and He wrote a new story from the ashes.

She coveted her story.

Carried all its weight.

Built her walls so tall and wide,

Nothing could penetrate.

She disguised her weakness,

behind a mask of strength.

Until her frail foundation,

could no longer bear its weight.

When her walls began to crumble,

when her mask was stripped away,

She stood inside the wreckage,

of the war that she had waged.

The darkness was consuming,

and overwhelmed by fear,

She fell upon her knees and cried,

“LORD, please don’t leave me here!”

Drawing of a woman weeping into her hands on a dark monochrome background.

The storm raged all around her.

With darkness closing in,

She raised her hands to Heaven,

And finally reached for Him.

Shame had held her captive.

Lies had marred her soul.

She felt unworthy to approach,

The glory of His throne.

How could He forgive her,

for the wrongs that she had done?

Her betrayal spoke so loudly

she was hesitant to come.

Still she knelt before Him,

and softly spoke His name.

“LORD, please look upon me,

despite my sin and shame.”

Close-up image of Jesus reaching out His hand with light shining behind Him.

He met her in the darkness.

And gently spoke her name,

“My child, I have been waiting,

to release you from this pain.

I’ve watched you battle demons,

witnessed your fall from grace,

felt you turn from Me in fear,

And from Me hide your face.

I have loved you in the darkness,

longed for you to come,

My mercy is much stronger than

The wrongs that you have done.

The price for your forgiveness,

has been fully paid.

You only have to believe in Me,

to know that you are saved.”

She raised her eyes to Heaven.

Her tears began to fall.

She wept for all the years she’d run,

For the hope that filled her soul.

“Rise,” He said, “And let go

of the chains that hold your past.

Lay your burdens at my feet,

My grace is with you now.

Let go of all your doubt and fear,

Hold on to Me instead.

Your broken life has been restored,

All that was is dead.

I’ve given you a new heart;

Your soul has been washed clean.

You are a new creation,

I’ve broken all your chains.”

Image of a heavy open prison door with light streaming in.

She rose and stood before Him.

He reached out for her hand.

Guided her into the light,

where darkness could not win.

She followed as He lead her,

to the shores of lasting peace,

and breathing in His mercy,

Tasted the grace that frees.

“Go and sin no more,” He said,

“My Spirit will remain.

Surrender everything you are,

for everything I am.

I will walk beside you,

as you travel down this path,

Enter through the narrow gate,

For you are home at last.”
