If I could go back and talk to the girl I was, I would tell her these things.
If I could go back and talk to the girl I was, I’d tell her not to wait — to come to the table exactly as she is.
These are the lessons I learned the hard way.
I try not to focus on that, but on the fact that I learned them.
This wasn’t my doing. It was God’s.
I share them because you may be experiencing one or more of these seasons in your life.
If so, I pray they find you.
And when they do, I pray you let them transform you, heal you, and grant you peace.
The gifts are there.
You don’t have to wait to receive them.
To the girl I was,
Control is an illusion.
You don’t have it. You never did and you never will.
In fact, the harder you grip that wheel, the more out of control you’ll spin.
You’ll spend so much of your life and your strength pursuing the idea of control, but you’ll never gain it. It was never yours to have.
Surrender this need now, along with every aspect of your life and being. Lay it all down at the foot of the Cross.
The story you’re trying to write has already been written.
Trust the Author. Go to Him. Lean on Him and rely on Him.
Until you do, you’ll never be healed.
Forgiveness is essential.
And it’s not just something you must give others; it’s something you have to give yourself.
You’ll spend so many years overcome with guilt and shame because of the choices you’ve already made and cannot alter—so much time carrying these burdens that you’ll feel wholly unworthy of anything good.
You’ll try to drown your pain in countless bottles, starve yourself to emaciation, and the shame will grow until it drowns you.
Clawing your way back to the surface will be the hardest battle you’ll ever wage.
Forgive yourself now. You’re worthy.
The war has already been won. The Cross says so. The empty tomb says so.
Stop trying to save yourself.
Trust in the One who’s already saved you.
For as surly as surrender is essential for healing, forgiveness is essential for freedom.
Be present.
In every moment you’re given. They’re not an endless well.
Stop holding on to the past. It’s gone. Let it go. Carry with you only the lessons you’ve learned. They’ll serve you well.
Stop looking ahead for happiness and contentment. There’s no magic moment when you’ll finally arrive.
I tell you this, so you’ll appreciate the NOW of your life.
Trust me when I tell you, some of the people currently around you that you often take for granted won’t be with you when you reach where I am.
All the degrees you’ve earned, the countless hours you’ve spent pursuing perfection, all the miles you’ve run, the momentary gratification and empty pleasures, will no longer matter to you.
The only thing you’ll long for is more time with the ones you’ve lost.
So choose presence NOW, and let it fill you so completely that regret and fear no longer make a home in you.
For as surly as surrender is essential for healing and forgiveness is essential for freedom, presence is essential for peace.
Healing, forgiveness, and peace are offered to you, every second of your life.
You don’t have to wait until you feel worthy to receive them.
You don’t have to bargain for them or repay them.
They’re gifts of grace paid for by a Savior who stood in the gap for you.
You don’t have to reach across the abyss; Christ already bridged the distance for you.
All you have to do is come to the table.
— From the woman I am

Come to the Table
Sinners are forgiven.
The lost will find a home,
in the presence of our Savior,
at the right hand of God’s throne.
The longing and the weary,
the guilty and the shamed,
will find the peace they’re seeking
in the shelter of His name.
The princes and the paupers,
the captive and the freed,
are welcomed at the table.
He answers every need.
The suffering and the beggars,
the doubters and the weak,
will find the strength they long for
when they come and take a seat.
Come to the table.
The table of the King.
Where His love is overflowing.
Where your soul will rest in peace.
Come to the table.
The table of the Lamb.
With outstretched arms
He welcomes,
all who turn to Him.
Oh, come to the table.
Your blessed place awaits,
beside our loving Savior,
at the table of His grace.
Come to the table.
