Psalm 91 is a Psalm of comfort for the weary and a promise of complete safety in our Father’s arms.
Psalm 91 speaks of God’s sheltering protection and fierce love for us. It’s a Psalm of comfort for the weary and a promise of complete safety in our Father’s arms.
1Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. 15He will call on Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
Psalm 91
Intimate Protection
God’s protection is intimate and secure. He covers us as a mother bird shelters her young beneath her wings. His protection isn’t abstract. It’s fully present and available to all who reach for it. It’s capable and powerful. In the shelter of His wings, we are defended against all that would otherwise defeat us.
God sees our struggles and provides divine security and rest. Nothing compares to the refuge we find in His presence. With God, we are more than covered; we are chosen and wholly blessed.
Divine Security
God is faithful, even when we are not. Psalm 91 describes God’s protection as a shield and a rampart that defends us against all evil. It is an impenetrable wall. A fortress of divine security that shelters us from every foe. God is our constant defense against every spiritual and physical danger we face.
Nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). Nothing can withstand the power and safety we’re granted in His love.
Active Refuge
When we seek God, He is there. He provides active refuge from fear, calming our anxieties, assuring us that even when we struggle, our spiritual souls are safeguarded in His constant care.
There’s nothing we have to do, no work we must perform to receive God’s gift of faithful protection. It is by grace through faith that we are defended. It is by grace through faith that we are saved in Christ Jesus.
Today, as you live and breathe, in whatever struggles you may face, rely fully on God’s mercy and protection. Reach for Him in faith, for He is your strong defender and your place of peace and rest. AMEN.

Wings of Protection
Cover me with Your feathers, LORD,
in the REFUGE of Your wings.
Be my SHIELD and RAMPART,
My SHELTER in all things.
Allow Your GRACE to COMFORT,
Though I fall far behind.
Remind me of your FAITHFULNESS,
grant sight where I am blind.
Teach me to be PATIENT,
to TRUST when I am weak.
To reach for You in earnest, LORD,
for the answers that I seek.
To hunger for Your MERCY,
and the PROMISE in Your WORD.
To turn away from selfishness
and the temptations of the world.
Let Your SPIRIT cover me,
as day covers the night.
Lead me in Your STILLNESS, LORD,
to dwell fully in Your LIGHT.
Reveal Your PURPOSE for me.
Grant me STRENGTH to follow through,
so that all my days bring GLORY, LORD,
to the PEACE I find in You.
AMEN

I’m JN Fenwick
Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame. On March 22, 2018, I surrendered my life to Christ. I was 51. God did not forsake me. He welcomed me, as undeserving as I am. He did not see my brokenness. Instead, He saw my potential. My Recovery Journey is one of Faith. From the ashes of my failures, God built a fire in me. A fire that guides each step I take. My journey is yours. My healing can be yours, too. God is a mighty warrior. You can take comfort in the promise that the Lord will fight for you and grant you peace.
