Hope is a fragile thing, especially when life throws us curveballs. Psalm 42 reminds us to put our hope in God.
Psalm 42 is a cry for help. A cry for comfort and strength when we’re facing trials. It’s a deep longing for rescue and a message of hope in the storm, reminding us to put our hope in God.
Life is unpredictable, but God is not.
God doesn’t abandon us in our time of need. No more than He does in times of joy. That’s the steadfastness of God. He’s present in our troubles and in our joy.
God’s faithfulness is a rock. It doesn’t crumble. It doesn’t waver. Faith is trusting in His presence when we don’t understand.
It’s easy to glorify God when things are going our way. In those moments, we often forget to acknowledge His presence. We forget that He’s the author of our lives, no matter what’s happening around us.

Our trials aren’t punishments, they’re opportunities.
That’s hard for us to grasp, especially when we’re hurting. How can pain be an opportunity?
When we’re hurting, the only thing we want is to stop hurting. Our focus isn’t on the lesson, it’s on the escape. We want the pain to end.
God asks us to be patient and to remain faithful. His timing isn’t ours. His plan isn’t ours either. We can’t know God’s mind, but we do know His love (John 3:16).
Seeking God in the storm is an opportunity to know Him and to strengthen our relationship with Him. There’s beauty and comfort in that knowledge. No matter what we’re going through, God will see us through.
Put your hope in God.
God is with us in our present reality, no matter what that is. He’s also our future hope. Two times in Psalm 42, the psalmist writes, “Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God,”(verses 5 and 11).
That’s not by accident. It’s a reminder that our hope must be steadfast and unbreakable.
God’s love for us isn’t fragile. It’s unbreakable and relentless. Therefore, our hope cannot be fragile. We must praise Him in the storm as readily as we do when times are good.
Today, no matter what you’re facing, put your hope in GOD.
My Prayer
LORD, you are the author of my life. May I find you in the storm and in the calm. May I reach for you with steadfast hope, no matter what I’m facing. Guide me in trust, LORD, direct me in faith. Grant me patience in my trials and humility in my joy. I put my hope in You, God, knowing You are with me. May my soul thirst for You. May my life reflect You. And may my voice proclaim Your goodness forever, Amen.

GOD IS OUR HOPE
A soul that HUNGERS.
A heart that THIRSTS,
for God’s MERCIFUL GRACE,
and the TRUTH of His WORD.
Hands that SERVE Him.
A voice that is LIFTED,
praising His FAITHFULNESS,
and the GIFTS that He gives us.
Feet that walk BOLDLY,
down the path He directs us.
HUMBLY fulfilling
the MISSION, He left us.
To share the GOOD NEWS
throughout every nation.
The TRUTH of FORGIVENESS,
and the GIFT of SALVATION.
No matter the moment
or the trials that we face,
God is our HOPE,
and our unfailing GRACE.
May every breath bring Him HONOR.
May every word that we say,
PROCLAIM that He IS the LIFE,
the TRUTH and the WAY.
AMEN.

I’m JN Fenwick

Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame. On March 22, 2018, I surrendered my life to Christ. I was 51. God did not forsake me. He welcomed me, as undeserving as I am. He did not see my brokenness. Instead, He saw my potential. My Recovery Journey is one of Faith. From the ashes of my failures, God built a fire in me. A fire that guides each step I take. My journey is yours. My healing can be yours, too. God is a mighty warrior. You can take comfort in the promise that the Lord will fight for you and grant you peace.
