We’re chosen to be holy and blameless before God. Because we’re chosen, we have to choose to live Godly lives.
That word makes me think of PE class when I was a kid. The teacher picked two team captains; the rest of us waited to be chosen, hoping we wouldn’t be the last one picked.
I usually was. I wasn’t the most coordinated, which is probably why I became a runner. Competing against myself was less bruising to my ego.
The world is fickle. Thus, being chosen by the world carries qualifications. Characteristics, skills, or talents we have to have to make the team.
God doesn’t work that way.
Spiritually, being chosen isn’t about what we bring to the table; it’s about what God has given us.

God chose us before the world began.
Think about that. God chose us before we took our first breath. Before He created the heavens and the earth, we were His.
How marvelous that is! We don’t have to be perfect to be chosen, but we do have to live holy, blameless lives.
We’re chosen and blessed because God deems it so.
We can’t accomplish salvation on our own.
In fact, we can accomplish nothing for God unless He empowers us to do so.
He initiated our salvation when He sent His Son into the world to die for us. Jesus told us, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws Him. And I will raise him up on the last day,” John 6:44.
God chose to redeem us and reconcile us to Himself through Christ. But He also gave us free will. Yes, we’re chosen by Him, but we also have to choose Him.
We have a responsibility in our salvation.
We aren’t an afterthought in God’s plan; we are central to it. Salvation is a divine gift, one we’re free to deny or accept.
When we believe in Christ, we are chosen to live lives worthy of His sacrifice and the gift of eternal life He offers. Because we are chosen, we have to choose to live Godly lives. The responsibility of faith rests on us.
CHOSEN AND BLESSED
How BLESSED are we
to be CHOSEN,
to receive God’s gift of GRACE.
And to KNOW He goes before us,
no matter the trials we face.
How BLESSED are we
to receive His SON,
the ONE He sent to SAVE us.
To be granted LIFE in His NAME,
with the PROMISE that He’d RAISE us,
into His HOLY KINGDOM,
when we BELIEVE in HIM,
the ONE who gave His very LIFE,
to RESCUE us from sin.
How BLESSED are we His CHILDREN,
for He never turns away.
In CHRIST we are FORGIVEN,
and covered in His GRACE.
How BLESSED are we to KNOW Him,
to TRUST in His HOLY WORD,
for He gave us LIFE and all we need,
to OVERCOME the world.
May we CHOOSE this day to follow,
to SURRENDER all to Him,
to live HOLY lives that are worthy of
His gift of GRACE, AMEN.

I’m JN Fenwick

Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame. On March 22, 2018, I surrendered my life to Christ. I was 51. God did not forsake me. He welcomed me, as undeserving as I am. He did not see my brokenness. Instead, He saw my potential. My Recovery Journey is one of Faith. From the ashes of my failures, God built a fire in me. A fire that guides each step I take. My journey is yours. My healing can be yours, too. God is a mighty warrior. You can take comfort in the promise that the Lord will fight for you and grant you peace.
