COME, FOLLOW ME

Matthew 11:28 is an open invitation from Jesus promising peace and rest for the weary.

“Come, follow Me,” is an invitation. One that promises sanctuary and spiritual rest. More than that, it’s an invitation to develop a personal relationship with Christ. A relationship that goes beyond following the rules.

Specifically, it’s an invitation to know Christ.

All who are weary and burdened.

We all get weary, allowing life to overwhelm and distract us. We succumb to fear, anxiety, pressure, and sin. In our quest for pleasure and contentment, we forget the one true source of peace available to us — Christ.

But Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us that we’re lovingly invited to lay our burdens down and to follow Him.

Indeed, as believers, we’re called to surrender our cares and anxieties to Christ, who offers respite from the trials of this world and comfort filled with grace. No burden is too heavy, for He’s already borne and overcome the greatest burden of all — the sins of the world.

And you will find rest for your souls.

In Matthew 11:29, Jesus is calling us to learn from Him and to become like Him, gentle and humble in heart.

Christ willingly paid the price for our sins. His death and resurrection ensured salvation for all who believe in Him. For that reason, the rest He promises is not just physical, it’s a deep spiritual rest that restores our souls.

It’s a peace that comes through faith in Christ rather than through works. We’re no longer bound by the old laws, but redeemed through grace alone.

For My yoke is easy.

A yoke is a wooden beam used to connect two animals, usually oxen, at the neck, enabling them to pull heavy loads. It symbolizes partnership, but also bondage and servitude.

Matthew 11:30 invites us to be “yoked” with Christ.

His willing sacrifice released us from the bondage of the law and welcomed us into the New Covenant. A covenant of love, mercy, and grace that ensures Christ is right beside us, taking the weight and guiding us, making the work easy and our burden light.

My Prayer

LORD, thank You for inviting me into Your grace, for offering to carry my burdens, and for granting me peace and rest. Thank You for Your loving sacrifice, for delivering me from the bondage of sin and inviting me into Your Kingdom. Teach me, LORD, to become gentle and humble in heart. Lead me to the cross. Guide me in righteousness, obedience, and faithfulness so that all that I am reflects all that You are. Amen.

I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND LIFE.

Come and follow me.

For through My RESURRECTION,

You have been made FREE.

No barrier can keep you

from the SALVATION that I offer.

Cast your cares upon me,

find MERCY at the altar

of My undying LOVE for you,

for through Me you are saved. 

I will heal your brokenness

with unrelenting GRACE.

The LIFE I bring transcends the world,

find HOPE that conquers fear,

the moment that you reach for Me,

I will draw you near.

I’ll lead you to the well of PEACE,

from which your FREEDOM flows.

Take up your CROSS and follow me,

Take heart and truly KNOW,

that I’m the PATH of LIFE you seek,

the source of all SALVATION,

granted at the dawn of time,

The HEART of all CREATION.

I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND LIFE,

Through Me, you have been BLESSED.  

Take up your CROSS and follow me,

And I will give you REST.

Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame.
