I’ve been asked many times since I began my recovery journey, what made the difference? Why was this time different from all the times I’d tried before and failed?
It’s been 7 years, and my answer has not changed. Since the moment God delivered me from the afflictions of alcoholism and an eating disorder, I’ve known the answer. There’s only one path to healing and to the peace that restores, transforms, and sustains me.
The path begins with surrender.
Giving everything I was, everything I am, and ever will be to the Lord with an honest and humble heart is the first and most important step. Healing came the instant I surrendered.
The strength to continue comes from God, and it’s unwavering. I do not fear falling because He’s right there. His presence restores, His mercy transforms, and His Spirit sustains me.
God’s presence restores us.
Restoration and renewal come from God. God uplifts and sustains us through His divine presence. God’s presence restores our joy when we acknowledge our transgressions and humbly seek His forgiveness.
We can trust in God’s care and guidance. We can depend on Him to meet all our needs. For God is not only willing, He is able. His blessings are new every morning, and His faithfulness is eternal.
God’s mercy transforms us.
God’s mercy is unconditional. It transforms us in ways nothing else ever will. It restores us from the inside, bringing light to the darkest corners of our soul. God’s light is greater than our darkness. When we allow it to fill us, to overflow within us, there’s nothing it cannot overcome.
The gift of salvation, purchased through Christ Jesus, delivers us from the darkness. When we reach for it, the pure light of salvation restores our relationship with God. When we cling to God, He provides the desire and strength we need to continue the journey.
God’s Spirit sustains us.
The gift of the Holy Spirit upholds us on our journey, guiding us to the fullness of life found only in Christ. Strength comes through surrender. Strength from a never-ending well that sustains and empowers us every step of the way.
There’s no other way. I know. I’m living the miracle. I pray that others lost in the darkness of addiction and suffering find that miracle, too. That they take that first step. The one that feels impossible in the moment, but that makes all things possible in the end.
He Restores Our Souls
May the glory of God,
overwhelm us.
May His perfect love,
fill every heart.
May His mercy prevail.
May His infinite grace,
touch every soul.
Those lost,
those living in darkness,
those suffering and weary,
those in high places,
and those in low.
May His steadfast presence,
overwhelm every corridor.
May His glorious light,
cast out all darkness,
and lead us back to Him.
May every heart,
every mind,
and every soul,
lift reverent arms in praise,
and on bended knee,
cede all control,
to His perfect will.
For the Lord,
opens the eyes of the blind,
lifts up those bowed down,
and hears the cries,
of the suffering.
He restores our souls.
His mercy transforms us.
His Spirit sustains us.
There’s nothing He cannot do.
May the glory of God,
overwhelm us.
May His perfect love,
fill every heart.
May His abiding presence
inspire and empower us,
to seek His Will,
Obey His Word,
Follow in His Footsteps,
and live as He Commands,
now and forever.
