If the stars were made to worship, so will I — Psalm 19:1.
John 4:24 tells us, “God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” When we worship God reverently, humbly, and with gratitude, we are worshipping Him as Jesus taught us — in spirit and truth.
Revelation through divine creation.
God transcends physical limitations. He is not confined to a specific location or form. Instead, God is an invisible and omnipresent being, existing outside of time and space as we know it. His power and majesty are revealed through His creation, of which we are a part.
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork.
Psalm 19:1
The heavens and the earth embody the glory of God. Glory that is revealed to us through the natural world, our senses, the miracles we witness, and God’s Holy Word. It’s impossible to gaze upon the stars or witness the splendor of the setting sun without praising God for these gifts. That’s what worship is — praising God for the mighty works of His hands and His abiding faithfulness and love.
True worship is about our hearts, not just our outward actions.
God sees into our hearts. He knows when we approach Him with sincere and humble surrender and with a genuine desire to know and honor Him. Genuine worship requires both spirit and truth.
To worship in spirit, our inner beings must align with the Holy Spirit. It’s through our spirits that we experience the deep and personal connection God desires. It’s also through our spirits that we feel God’s presence and hear His voice.
To worship in truth, we must pursue correct knowledge and understanding of who God is and what He desires. Just as we look upon creation and see God’s handiwork all around us, we look to scripture to experience God’s revealed truth. Scripture teaches us who God is, what He commands of us, and how we’re supposed to conduct ourselves so that our lives reflect His glory.
Worshipping as Jesus taught us.
Christ is the most perfect example of what it means to walk in spirit and truth, and to trust in, humbly submit to, and fully depend upon the Father. I pray that our worship and our lives become the reflection of spirit and truth Jesus taught us so that we are worthy of the salvation He bought us. Amen.
In Spirit and Truth
Quiet my mind, Lord,
so I can hear You.
Open my heart,
so that I know You.
Fill my spirit, Lord,
with Your Holy Presence.
Give me eyes, Lord,
that always seek You.
Willing hands, Lord
that long to serve You.
Guide my feet, Lord,
where You direct me.
Increase my faith, Lord,
in Your great power.
Humble me, Lord,
to bend before You.
Grant me wisdom,
wrapped in Your mercy.
Allow Your grace, Lord,
to shield and clothe me.
Increase Your will, Lord
so that I decrease.
Grant me compassion,
to love as You love.
Forgive my weakness,
when I stray from You.
Fill my life, Lord,
with all You are.
