GOD’S STRENGTH IS SUFFICIENT

The revelation that sustains me. The promise that moves me is this: God’s strength is sufficient.

Scripture is alive with the truth of God’s strength. His presence is with us throughout our lives. He remains close, ready to uphold us in times of tribulation, to steady us in times of doubt, and to rejoice with us in times of joy. God’s strength is the rock on which we can rely and on which we can build our faith.

Recently, I came across a Christian writer on Substack whose words aren’t just inspirational, they’re divine. God has blessed Pastor Rich Bitterman with a gift.

Every time I read his offerings, I’m moved. Not just momentarily, but spiritually moved. God Himself has entered the room to stand beside me. It’s His voice I hear.

Pastor Bitterman’s words are alive with the Word of God. From a place of deep faith, they flow into me as a read. They challenge me and often overwhelm me. Every time I receive them, they reach into the depths of my being with truth.

I don’t know how else to describe it. Except to invite you to experience it for yourself.

Strength for Today

Recently, I read, Strength for Today, in which Pastor Bitterman spoke of the nearness of God as revealed in Psalm 46.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1

Pastor Bitterman’s words reminded me that I’m not alone in my walk of faith and never will be. “The psalm teaches us to think differently. God’s help is not delayed by geography or circumstance. It is already present. This does not remove the weight of hardship, but it steadies us within it,” Pastor Rich Bitterman.

I understand that steadiness intimately. When he wrote of life’s challenges, I saw my own. When he spoke of God’s promise, I knew exactly what that meant.

God is Close

In 2018, two things happened that showed me exactly how close to me God really is.

I entered recovery in March of that year. After years of alcoholism and an eating disorder, God met me in the darkness. The moment I reached for Him, He was there, not with condemnation, but with love. In Him, I was granted the strength to faithfully walk into recovery with perseverance and conviction.

In October of that same year, Hurricane Michael devastated my home in the Florida Panhandle. A fledgling in recovery, my progress could’ve ended there. But God remained close. He strengthened me daily. Through His steadfast presence, this very real disaster turned into a deeper opportunity to trust Him.

This year, I celebrate 8 years of recovery. Not by my strength, but by His. God is ever present. In the good times and in the storm. I am grateful for His closeness, relying on Him in every moment to guide my recovery journey and to increase my faith. He never fails me.

God’s Presence is Steady

In Pastor Bitterman’s words, I felt God’s steady presence. The moment I surrendered, God wrapped His arms around me. When life tested my conviction, He gave me the strength to continue. There’s nothing that can separate me from Him.

Pastor Bitterman beckoned me to remember and to rest securely in the knowledge that God is always there.

Life continues to bring moments of weakness. The promise here is not escape but presence. We are upheld before we ask and accompanied as we walk through what we did not choose.

That’s the revelation that sustains me. The promise that moves me. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear (Psalm 118:6).

God’s Strength is Sufficient

God’s STRENGTH is sufficient.

His MERCY does not fade.

He is ever present,

with steadfast LOVE and GRACE.

He enters in our troubles

to calm the rising tides.

He lifts us from the darkness,

and by His hand we rise.

From  the depths of our anguish,

and the weakness caused by fear.

God is ever-present,

He gives us strength to bear,

every tribulation,

we face throughout our lives.

He lifts us from the darkness,

and by His hand we rise.

God’s STRENGTH is sufficient.

We’re covered in His GRACE.

There’s no barrier He can’t overcome,

no stain He can’t erase.

In His PRESENCE we are JUSTIFIED.

In His MERCY we’re made whole.

His STRENGTH is an ocean,

from which our own strength flows.

He lifts us from the darkness,

and by His hand we rise.

There’s nothing left for us to fear.

For He is on our side.

AMEN.

I’m JN Fenwick.

Wife, mom, but more importantly, a recovering alcoholic with a grateful heart. For years, I struggled, not just with alcohol, but with an eating disorder and the burdens of guilt and shame. On March 22, 2018, I surrendered my life to Christ. I was 51. God did not forsake me. He welcomed me, as undeserving as I am. He did not see my brokenness. Instead, He saw my potential. My Recovery Journey is one of Faith. From the ashes of my failures, God built a fire in me. A fire that guides each step I take. My journey is yours. My healing can be yours, too. God is a mighty warrior. You can take comfort in the promise that the Lord will fight for you and grant you peace.
